Lost time is love
“It’s the time you spent on your rose that makes your rose so important…People have forgotten this truth, but you mustn’t forget it. You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed. You’re responsible for your rose.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – The Little Prince
Today I spent time on a little drawing of one of my favorite books: „Le Petit Prince“ by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
This book is full of gold nuggets and life wisdom, full of heartfelt advice to go slow and focus on the most important things in your life, a life that is lived from the heart.
That’s the original quote from the book: „C’est le temps que tu as perdu pour ta rose qui fait ta rose si importante.“
It’s the time you have lost for your rose…
I like the word “lost” in this context more because “spending” sounds more materialistic, hard to do, hard to earn, it cuts something off from your resources, it feels kind of heavy.
Losing doesn’t have to describe a winner and loser, it can be a process of letting go, of getting lost in space and time in a serene way. It can feel like giving freely, from the heart and gaining experience at the same time. It’s going with the flow and cycles of life.
„Not all who wander are lost.“ – J.R.R. Tolkien
Not all who waste their time are lost. In fact, is there even a waste of time? Can we find ourselves in “losing time”?
Often it is the small things in life we spend our time on.
When we are in a state of losing track of our time, we are the happiest.
These days when you have dinner with a loved one, a wonderful conversation with a friend, learning something new, being creative, exploring this new place in nature.
These are the moments you create memories.
This is your “lost time”, when you truly feel alive and held by life.
These are the memories that make your life important and meaningful.
These are the moments you lose for your rose, a rose that is meaningful and unique to you, only because you dare to lose something that is so precious to you:
Time
Lost time is never wasted when you lose it to create memories and connection.
Lost time is love.
